Daniel Berntsson, the founder of Mullvad made a very concerning decision.
One that shows his and, by extension, Mullvad's true colors, one where they cannot be trusted anymore and have effectively destroyed what they once claimed to stand for.
Back in June of this year, Daniel Berntsson made the decision to donate 5,000,000 SEK (500K USD/435K EUR) to the Swedish political party Örebro.
The biggest problem isn't that this is a form of corruption where Daniel Berntsson has essentially bought themselves a seat in the Swedish Parliament. The real problem comes in as what Örebro stands for and, by extension, what Daniel stands for and his company.
On the Face of it, The Örebro party seems like a great leftist party, 30 hour work week, strong secularism, lowered pay for politicains, etc definitely give the illusion of a supposed "great" left wing party but it couldn't be further from the truth.
Despite their claims, Örebro is a right-wing nationalist party that believes in closing all of Sweden's borders and existing the EU Schengen Area, essentially decreasing Sweden's connection to the EU and not just individuals looking to build a better life in Sweden.
They also believe in stripping citizenship of all individuals living inside Sweden. Both Naturalized Citizens which have have obeyed Swedish immigration law and fully assimilated into Swedish society, and also individuals born inside Sweden, as according to them, they may not necessarily be Swedish enough to live there.

Not only is Örebro a right-wing, nationalistic party but it's pretty safe to say that they are racists as well.

Needless to say anyone supporting such is more than just a questionable person...
In order to enforce such policies, Sweden would essentially have to become an authoritarian surveillance state that monitors and tracks individuals just like ICE in the United States.
A mass surveillance database keeping logs and data about everyone, and a network of tracking devices ranging from facial recognition devices to GPS trackers and potentially backdoors and tools to snoop on communications.
This is deeply contradictory to what Mullvad supposedly "stands for"
Mullvad The Company will argue that this is a personal donation from Daniel and has nothing directly to do with it however this is a lie, Firstly Mullvad is owned 50% by Daniel Berntsson which he holds majority control and absoulute powers over its board of directors as such Mullvad is very much influinced by them and ontop of that the money he has is made directly from Mullvad. Instead of Investing those profits back into Mullvad or rewarding themselves, Daniel Berntsson makes the choice to pursue Nationalistic Racist politics that will only serve to ruin Sweden and push it into the dark ages. That reminds us of someone doesn't it? (*cough, cough* Elon...)
Bottom line is you can't be pro-privacy & security while supporting higher powers that wish to strip them.
Truly pathetic.
Cut Mullvad and by extension, it's founder's oxygen line, In other words end your Mullvad subscription and switch to another provider.
I personally would recommend Windscribe as it is Open Source Software with close capabilities to Mullvad VPN and if you are looking for something with superior security, NYM is my recommendation.
If you just wanna improve your privacy and security while bypassing censorship and don't care for changing your location, Cloudflare WARP may be a better choice for you.

Final notes, Privacy is Human right and an inseparable part of true freedom as well as freedom of movement. Mullvad contradicts this in every possible way.
